In a significant development ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is poised to contest from the prestigious Raebareli constituency. This decision comes in the wake of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi's transition to the Rajya Sabha, leaving a vacant seat that Priyanka Gandhi is expected to fill, marking her debut in electoral politics.

Raebareli holds historical significance for the Gandhi family, with Sonia Gandhi having clinched victory in the constituency five times in the past, including the 2019 elections, where she emerged as the sole Congress leader to secure a Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. The anticipation surrounding Priyanka Gandhi's candidature has already materialized in the form of posters displayed by enthusiastic Congress workers in the city, urging her to carry forward the legacy of developmental initiatives in Raebareli.

Meanwhile, in a bid to bolster its electoral prospects, the Congress party is gearing up to unveil its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A notable highlight of the manifesto is the inclusion of the "right to employment" as a key poll promise, aimed at appealing to the country's youth. This groundbreaking initiative, a first in the party's electoral agenda, underscores the Congress' commitment to addressing the pressing issues of unemployment and economic empowerment.

The announcement regarding the "right to employment" initiative is expected to be made during a public rally in Badanawar, Madhya Pradesh, where Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi are scheduled to be present. The manifesto committee, spearheaded by former finance minister P. Chidambaram and comprising senior leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shashi Tharoor, and Anand Sharma, among others, is poised to conclude discussions on the manifesto, underscoring the party's concerted efforts to articulate a comprehensive vision for the nation's future.

Additionally, in a strategic move to consolidate its electoral presence, Rahul Gandhi is slated to contest from both Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala. Rahul's decision to contest from Amethi, despite his defeat to BJP leader Smriti Irani in the 2019 polls, reaffirms the party's commitment to reclaiming its traditional stronghold. Victory in Wayanad in the previous election enabled Rahul to retain his Lok Sabha status, further solidifying his electoral strategy for the upcoming polls.
